ubuntu 6.06 LTS works well.. others giving checksum error while installing

today i got the ubuntu 8.10 desktop cd. but i was not able to install. it says checksum error. but i am using the cd's sent from ubuntu and didn't wrote the cd by myself. it happens with ubuntu 7.10 and ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I have ubuntu 6.06 LTS which works well. My system is an AMD 64 2800 with 512 MB of RAM. Motherboard:MSI k8Neo V. Plz help me..

I don't think the problem maybe with the cd. It may be related to your hardware. Till which step of the installation, could you move?
