Hi ! there, friends,
Brand new Ubuntu convert. Non tech geek, if u would permit me to describe myself a geek at all ! hahahahahaha !!!
Purchased a brand new Compaq Presario SG3770IL Desktop PC ( Specs:Intel® Core™2 Duo processor E7400
• 2.80 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz System Bus ) WITH FREE DOS (How is that for a con ?) NO WINDOWS!
System features:
Graphic sub system name:Intel® GMA 3100 Graphics;
Video RAM :with 128MB shared graphics memory. Up to 287MB Total Available Graphics Memory as allocated by Windows Vista®
Internal audio:Integrated Intel High Definition Audio - 5.1 Surround Sound Ready
External I/O ports:6 USB 2.0 ports (2 front, 4 rear), 2 PS/2, LAN
Expansion slots:1 PCI Express (x16), 2 PCI Express (x1), 1 PCI
Network interface:Integrated 10/100 BaseT network interface (Broadband Ready)
Problems:
1. Looks like my system has a low voice. When I listen to music and movies downloaded from net over headphones, I get a low voice even with full volume control of the system and the VLC player/Amarok/Dragon player/SM player. What could be the reason? ( S/W: Ubuntu 9.04 beta+Kubuntu+Edubuntu+Xubuntu)
2. How do I understand what is a necessary upgrade ? Whenever I Look for upgrades, there are upgrades of, say, something like 100 MB. If one keeps upgrading regularly, it looks like the entire disk space will be full of upgrades
3. When I tried to copy something from the USB ext drive in a 'personal'file created in the 641.5 MB Media, it informed me that there was no sufficient space
4. Ubuntu 8.10 was loaded from CD and loading was done "automatically" instead of the manual method by my HP vendor. Think my system was not partitioned.
5. Can I partition now. How do I do it?
I was fed up with the Windows Vista Home Premium and took this. Am enthusiastic to understand how this flavour of Linux works?
Answers / guidance anyone?
thanks in advance.
Happy Ubunt'an - Vardhanapu
