I want to mount the existing /home directory to one more new partition so anyone can help me how to do this. Also is there any command to check the free space available on the hard disc apart from df command.

Applications>>Accessories>Disk Usage Analyser, now i understand you would like to create more space first. Boot from your live CD, select Partition Editor, click on the partition that you want to change, resize/move, and then click on apply. This may destroy your data if done incorrectly, so back up before. Then create a new partition of the unallocated space and format it as per your preferences.
